The Optoelectronic Manufacturing Corporation (UK) Ltd is a fundamentally self-sufficient manufacturing company with in excess of 500,000 GBP capital. The Group enjoys market domination in a number of niche markets such as polymer fibre optics and edge lit LED back lighting for liquid crystal displays.
Approximately 30 people work for the Company in the UK and products are shipped worldwide from its European headquarters in Redruth, Cornwall.
The Group offers a wide range of facilities and products, and specialises particularly in the fields of Optoelectronic, LED’s and fibre optics.
Controls over costs and quality are exceptional due to the fact that the Company has in-depth manufacturing capability, even to the extent of producing injection mould tools in a specialised and extremely up to date facility on site. The UK manufacturing operation is certified to IS09001.
The product range is solution oriented, innovative and diverse and includes such items as fibre optic transmitters and receivers, specially designed reels for fibre optic cable assemblies, optical connectors and accessories, backlights and bezels, spacers and holders for discrete LEDS. Much of the innovation has evolved around a capability to produce a wide range of practical and economic light guides. In 1993 the Company won the UK Electronic Component Award for Innovation.
One of the few remaining high volume fibre optic cable assembly facilities in Europe is based at the Redruth site which occupies approximately 8000m2. In addition to the manufacture of traditional glass fibre cable assemblies, this part of the Group has developed a specific expertise in the use of polymer optical fibre and it is due to this fact and the fact that Fibre-Data’ transmitter components for plastic fibre are still up to an order of magnitude more powerful than their principal competitors, that the Group has dominated the UK market for polymer optical fibre for many years.
Associated manufacturing facilities in mainland China and the Republic of China (ISO 9002 certified) produce discrete LED products which often form a component part of the custom items developed in the UK. The Group’s main strength lies in a very innovative and dynamic approach to both in-house and customer led product development, strong financial status and, above all, comprehensive in-house manufacturing facilities and a wide ranging and prestigious customer base including such names as Philips Consumer Products (France), GEC Alstom (UK), Schlumberger (France & UK), Grundig (UK), H.E. Electronic (Germany) & Harris (USA).
OMC products contribute positively towards the daily lives of millions of people throughout the world. Examples of this include visible indicators in satellite decoders, switching controls and intercoms in trains, indicators in medical equipment and the fibre optic switching of electricity supplies in many countries including the UK, Canada, Korea, India, and the USA.
